Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative comments from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
He started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
