No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from other people destroy his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
