No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
