Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he could about the game. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from others annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
