No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

[ English ]

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
