Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
