Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental comments from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
