Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
