Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
