Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
