Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
