Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from others kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
