Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
