NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
