No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
