Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
