NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
