Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
