Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
