NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative comments from others annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
