Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the globe by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
