No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
