NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse comments from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
