No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
